As an applicant for the 2025 RWTH Port to Europe Fellowship, you need to submit the following:
• Letter of Motivation (max. 1 page)
• Research Proposal (max. 4 pages, excl. references)
• Curriculum Vitae incl. academic achievements and list of up to 10 key publications (max. 5 pages)
• Letter of Support from a host at RWTH Aachen (max. 1 page)
• PhD certificate or proof of expected completion
• Copies of previous university degrees (e.g., Bachelor, Master)
You are eligible for application if you:
· Are currently based outside the European Union (including German nationals abroad)
· Hold a PhD (max. 4 years after doctorate) or will complete it by February 28, 2026. Career breaks e.g. parental leave or caregiving time will be taken into account. Please mention them in your CV if applicable.
· Did not obtain your PhD at RWTH Aachen
· Are not currently affiliated with RWTH Aachen
You are encouraged to include a broad range of academic contributions beyond publications (e.g. teaching, mentoring, open science, third-party funding, science communication, societal impact, etc.).
Please note: Proposals that do not comply with the formal criteria or do not provide the necessary documents as noted in the call will be excluded from the reviewing process.
Applications will be evaluated by an interdisciplinary board of RWTH researchers based on these criteria:
• Clarity and persuasiveness of the motivation letter
• Academic achievements (e.g. publications, awards, own third-party funding or experience in its acquisition, teaching experience, transfer)
• Potential for collaboration with RWTH researchers
• Scientific quality and originality of the proposed project
• Feasibility of the proposed project
The board will take your individual career stage and any personal or structural circumstances into account. This includes, for example, parental leave, care responsibilities, health issues, disabilities, migration or integration phases, or language acquisition. If applicable, we encourage you to mention such aspects in your CV or letter of motivation.
